Description

Haa Tshechu is a vibrant and colorful festival celebrated annually at the courtyard of the the deeply revered, famous Lhakhang Karpo of the picturesque valley of Haa, Bhutan. This religious event showcases traditional mask dances, known as Chham, performed by monks and laymen. These sacred dances depict tales from Buddhist mythology and are believed to invoke blessings and ward off evil spirits, promoting peace and prosperity in the community.

The festival also features various cultural performances, including folk songs, dances, and traditional Bhutanese cuisine. Locals and tourists alike gather to witness the spectacle, adorned in their finery, creating a festive atmosphere filled with joy and camaraderie. Haa Tshechu not only serves as a religious celebration but also as a time for the community to come together, strengthen bonds, and celebrate their rich cultural heritage.

The Tshechu for 2024 will be held from October 10-12, and from 2025 onwards, from 8-10 of the ninth Bhutanese month. Bhutanese calendar can be viewed at www.bhutanesecalendar.com.
