Once a bustling business hub for orange sales from various communities around Jigmechu, the Jigmechu community faced hardship when all the oranges died, leaving no income for its residents. Despite the despair, hope returned with the inception of the Jigmechu Eco-Tourism Group Project. This initiative breathed new life into the community, attracting nemerous visitors and encouraging the return of residents. Today, Jigmechu is experincing a revitalization, with both local tourists and community members flocking back to enjoy offerings and opportunities.
The Jigmechhu Eco-Tourism project was intiated by Chukha Dzongkhag EDO(Economic Development Officer) Mr. Sangay Thinley, was officially handed on december 4th 2021 to 8 community members to manage the inatiative. each members contributed Nu 5000 to procure essentials for the campsites establishment. over the years, the venture flourished, attracting approximately 2000 guests.
The package offered to guests encompasses a range of amenities such as a welcoming tea featuring tongpa (local drinks) along with dinner, breakfast, campfire and accommodations in the tents or ecolodge.
Activies abound, from thriling rafting adventures to serene hikes to Ney, a prigrimage site just a 20-minute walk. Additionally, guests can immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of southern region and enjoy the breathtaking scenery route to the oyster lake.
