Around two centuries ago, approximately in the 19th century, Lama Choney Dorji established Katsho Goenpa in Haa valley. The Lama was guided by a vision that foretold his destiny in this location. Prior to its construction, the Lama had a dream where the sky was adorned with bright stars, leading to the naming of the place as Kartsho. Initially a two-storied structure, the Lhakhang faced the unfortunate event of being burnt down twice by fire around 50 years ago. Presently, the Lhakhang stands as a single-story building.
The main idol of worship is Guru Padmasambhava and chenrezig (Avalokitesvara). The famous Panorama Hiking trail of Haa (11km) that starts from Yangthang Goenba passes through Katsho Goemba and ends at the Juney Dra Monastery.
