In a beautiful village of Katsho in Haa, Kezang Dawa and his wife were the first to start a homestay over a decade ago, and they are still the only ones who run a homestay in their village.
Although initially they faced some challenges, they had guests who liked the real Bhutanese experience they offered. Kezang noticed that many people prefer hotels, however, he believes that through homestays they can share a true local home experience, where guests eat with them, sit together, and share stories.
They enjoy the special experience of eating together as a family, keeping the meals simple and authentic. Even though it was difficult in the beginning, the family learned along the way, and they love hosting guests from different countries and cultures.
Homestays, according to them, give a peaceful feeling like a farmhouse, away from noisy traffic and crowds.
In their partnership in both marriage and business, Kezang and his wife work together, cooking and cleaning to make sure the homestay runs well. The revenue they generate from the homestay is an important income for their family and raising their children.
One thing they love the most about running a homestay is sharing and exchanging diverse experiences and cultures with their guests.
